It's time to check Your Watchlist for end-of-August expiring Prime titles.
ReplyDeleteOn Thursday Amazon will begin to post its 28-day advance notices
of titles Leaving Prime at the end of August.
On Thursday Aug 3, you will find the new Orange Expiration Date Notices
for expiring Prime titles with a Last Day to Watch of Aug 30.
Aug 3 + 28 days = Aug 31 which is the day the title Leaves Prime,
so the Last Day to Watch is the day before on Aug 30.
The Aug 30 Orange Notices will say "Leaving Prime on Aug 31, 2017."
On Friday Aug 4, you will find the new Orange Expiration Date Notices
for expiring Prime titles with a Last Day to Watch of Aug 31.
Aug 4 + 28 days = 32 or Sept 1 which is the day the title Leaves Prime,
so the Last Day to Watch is the day before on Aug 31.
Logically, these Aug 31 Orange Notices should say "Leaving Prime on Sep 1, 2017." Unfortunately, confusing matters, Amazon is in the habit of posting these new Orange Expiration Date Notices as also saying "Leaving Prime on Aug 31, 2017."
The problem then becomes how do you tell the Aug 30 notices apart from the Aug 31 notices if they both say the SAME identical Leaving Prime date?
ReplyDeleteThe two-step procedure is to check Your Watchlist for the Aug 30 expiring titles first on Aug 3 and move them all to the top of page 1 of Your Watchlist. Then on Aug 4 when you check Your Watchlist again, any new Orange Expiration Date Notices that you find throughout the rest of Your Watchlist which say "Leaving Prime on Aug 31, 2017" will be the new Aug 31 Last Day to Watch expiring titles.
This method allows you to determine with certainty when the Last Day to Watch an expiring Prime title will be, regardless of whatever confusing Leaving Prime date you may find stated in the Orange Expiration Date Notice.
The only requirement is that you MUST BEGIN the procedure on Thursday Aug 3. Then you will know for certain that the new Orange Notices which appear in Your Watchlist on Friday Aug 4 are in fact those with a Last Day to Watch of Aug 31.
Then check Your Watchlist again on Saturday Aug 5 and you will find the new
ReplyDeleteOrange Notices for expiring Prime titles with a Last Day to Watch of Sept 1.
Aug 5 + 28 days = 33 or Sept 2 which is the day the title Leaves Prime,
so the Last Day to Watch is the day before on Sept 1.
Unfortunately, Amazon Prime Video will confuse matters again by displaying both the "Leaving Prime on Sep 1, 2017" and "Leaving Prime on Sep 2, 2017" Orange Notices for the Sept 1 Last Day to Watch titles. So, checking Your Watchlist for a third day on Saturday Aug 5 will sort out this mess.

This is odd. I checked my list on 8/3 and found no expirations, but today I have Gone Baby Gone. On my list, it showed up today but LarryG has this from yesterday. I wonder if the time zone makes a difference. I checked my list yesterday around 9 am CST.
It certainly does make you wonder about time zone differences and what time Amazon officially posts these notices.
DeleteIt happens. I think most of the Notices are already displaying in the morning, but Amazon may possibly add some later in the day.
DeleteAmazon Prime Video operates on a Seattle PDT schedule. [This blog also posts Comments using PDT time.] That means the new Notices do not appear until 12 AM midnight PDT, which is 2 AM CDT your time.
When you checked Your Watchlist at 9 AM CDT, it was 7 AM PDT before the Amazon workday even began. In the future you might want to wait until the afternoon your time to check Your Watchlist, if you're concerned about missing any new last-minute Notice additions.

It's getting odder and odder. My 'Regression' (2016) just showed up today (8/11/17 at 9:53 AM Central Time) with an expiration date of 9/6 (which I guess makes 9/5 the last day to watch). Yet, fantasticangel has it showing as 8/30.
It is odd. This morning I linked Regression to its movie page, and when I added it to my Watchlist it did show an expiration date of 8/31, making it 8/30 Unconfirmed. This was around 8am - 9am EST. Now, I added Regression back to my list and it is showing 9/06 expiration date. Someone from Amazon changed the date for this movie.
DeleteI don't like it when Amazon does this to us b/c sometimes the movies end up expiring early on the original expiration date. I remember that happened to the movie Happy Tears.

LarryG - the film "Who Gets the Dog?" shows the Prime banner in the upper left hand corner, but when I hover over it, it won't let me watch the film without paying a rental fee. I will check the status again tomorrow to see if anything changes.
DeleteHi, Shana. You are right. Tonight I see they have removed the Prime Sash from the Who Gets The Dog? (2016) poster in my WL, along with the "Leaving Prime on Sep 14, 2017" Orange Notice, and they have put the movie back on Showtime sub.
DeleteI can assure you that the normal Prime Watch Now button was there and on the movie webpage for several days last week.
BTW the IMDb website still says Watch Now With Prime Video. Ah well, no matter. As one reviewer there said, the movie is "nothing special."
If you need to see this direct-to-DVD movie, it did arrive on Netflix streaming on 8/1. You can watch it there without all of the Amazon Video shenanigans.
Thanks LarryG. I added it to my Netflix list. I am getting tired of Amazon going back-and-forth with these movies!
