  3. It's time to check Your Watchlist for end-of-Nov expiring Prime titles.
On Thursday Amazon will begin to post its 28-day advance notices
of titles Leaving Prime at the end of November.

On Thursday Nov 2, you will find the new Orange Expiration Date Notices
for expiring Prime titles with a Last Day to Watch of Nov 29.
Nov 2 + 28 days = Nov 30 which is the day the title Leaves Prime,
so the Last Day to Watch is the day before on Nov 29.
The Nov 29 Orange Notices will say "Leaving Prime on Nov 30, 2017."

On Friday Nov 3, you will find the new Orange Expiration Date Notices
for expiring Prime titles with a Last Day to Watch of Nov 30.
Nov 3 + 28 days = 31 or Dec 1 which is the day the title Leaves Prime,
so the Last Day to Watch is the day before on Nov 30.

Logically, these Nov 30 Orange Notices should say "Leaving Prime on Dec 1, 2017." Unfortunately, confusing matters, Amazon is in the habit of posting these new Orange Expiration Date Notices as also saying "Leaving Prime on Nov 30, 2017."

    ReplyDelete
  4. The problem then becomes how do you tell the Nov 29 notices apart from the Nov 30 notices if they both say the SAME identical Leaving Prime date?

The two-step procedure is to check Your Watchlist for the Nov 29 expiring titles first on Nov 2 and move them all to the top of page 1 of Your Watchlist. Then on Nov 3 when you check Your Watchlist again, any new Orange Expiration Date Notices that you find throughout the rest of Your Watchlist which say "Leaving Prime on Nov 30, 2017" will be the new Nov 30 Last Day to Watch expiring titles.

The only requirement is that you MUST BEGIN the procedure on Thursday Nov 2.

ALL titles with Nov 30 notices found on Thurs Nov 2 should be listed in Comments
    as "11/29 - Confirmed".

On Fri Nov 3, only those titles found with new Nov 30 notices in Your Watchlist
should be listed as "11/30 - Confirmed".

Titles with Nov 30 notices found elsewhere on the Amazon Prime Video website
on Fri Nov 3 should be listed in Comments
    as "11/29 - Unconfirmed (could be 11/30)".

    ReplyDelete
  5. Then check Your Watchlist again on Saturday Nov 4 and you will find the new
Orange Notices for expiring Prime titles with a Last Day to Watch of Dec 1.
Nov 4 + 28 days = 32 or Dec 2 which is the day the title Leaves Prime,
so the Last Day to Watch is the day before on Dec 1.

Unfortunately, Amazon Prime Video will confuse matters again by displaying both "Leaving Prime on Dec 1, 2017" and "Leaving Prime on Dec 2, 2017" Orange Notices for the Dec 1 Last Day to Watch titles. So, checking Your Watchlist for a third day on Saturday Nov 4 will sort out this incompetent mess.

Only those titles found with new Dec Orange Notices in Your Watchlist
on Saturday Nov 4 should be listed in Comments as "12/1 - Confirmed".

Please read my Comments on the Resources webpage for the full explanation of the two-step procedure and how you may also apply it to the Amazon Prime Video homepage and the "Customers Who Watched This Item Also Watched" Listings on movie and TV show webpages.

    The One I Love (2014)

This one just appeared today (11/2) with an expiration of 11/29, so I assume it must really be 11/28. I didn't have any that said 11/30.

    1. I'm not sure if "The One I Love" should be 11/28 or 11/29. Normally, anything posted today should say Leaving 11/30 and have a last day to view of 11/29, but like you said, it does say Leaving 11/29. Just to be safe, I will leave it as 11/28.

I didn't have any 11/30 movies either, but I may have checked too early in the day. I will check again later just to be safe.

    2. When finishing my checking, I found Pumpkinhead (1989) is 11/30 Confirmed after all, but I do not have the sequel Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings (1994). I think it would be fair to say the sequel movie is probably 11/30 Confirmed, too, based on the first movie being so. It's your call, Shana.

PunkinheadDelux, this movie on the Nov press release just arrived on Wed 11/1. I think it's good that Amazon Prime Video is able to vary its catalog by showing movies even for just a month or two. Some movies are too expensive to book for a year and we get to see more variety this way.

  30. I still cannot see expiration notices. Back in August, Anonymous posted on the FAQ page that he/she could no longer see expiration notices and was told by Amazon that they were taking away the notices as part of an experiment. I have no idea if that is what is happening with some of us.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. To those who find themselves being "experimented" on, I suggest using the "Send us Feedback" link on the individual title's web page to inquire why it used to say it was expiring and does not anymore.

      Delete
    2. I did try that on Friday with The Whistleblower. Unfortunately, the rep told me that if there is no expiration notice, then the film is not expiring. (Of course, we know that is not true).

However, your suggestion is a good idea. I may try that again tomorrow with a different title, and maybe I will get a different rep. Amazon needs to fix this :(

      Delete
  31. Re-reading the August comments on the FAQ webpage, I think that Anonymous was reporting then the removal of the hover-over Pop-Up Information Window entirely, which of course would include the Orange Expiration Date Notices, too. The experiment as explained was to remove the Pop-Up Windows and see what the effect would be. [Not a very smart idea in my opinion] The experiment was NOT to remove the "Leaving Prime" Notices.

What's apparently happening now is Amazon is working on updating the Pop-Up Information Window with a new improved look.

But the problem, as Shana and Anonymous pointed out (also see the Discussions webpage), is that the Orange Expiration Date Notices are NOT displaying with the New Format of the Pop-Up Information Window when you hover your mouse over a TV show or movie poster in Your Watchlist.

Amazon NEEDS to fix the New Pop-Up Format to include the Orange "Leaving Prime" Notices before they roll it out to all Prime customers in the US and worldwide.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. So the reason why some people can still see those dates and others not, is just because some are still getting the old format box. It's really strange that they obviously even do a kind of staged roll out when modifying parts of their webpage.

But I'm really sceptical about the missing dates being a mistake. I'm afraid sooner or later the new layout will arrive for all of us, so the dates will be gone for everybody. But I really hope I'm wrong.

    2. Those of you who are Netflix users may remember that years ago there were expiration notices one month in advance. Then, one month when an unusually high number of expiring titles resulted in a massive number of angry phone calls to customer service over the course of the month, Netflix decided to limit expiration notices for movies to ONE WEEK. This practice has continued to this day.

My point is that Netflix doesn't care a whit if its users have plenty of advance warning, they just want to limit the amount of complaining. And I don't think we should be under any illusion that Amazon feels anymore obliged to provide us with expiration notices than Netflix does. I fully expect, and have for some time, that expiration notices are going away. I hope I'm wrong.

      Delete
    3. Add me to the list of people who is no longer seeing expiration dates. I was one of the chosen who was added to Amazon's August study, which removed popups when hovering over a title. Now, it appears there is no study: expiration dates are now history in the Watchlist. In the short run, I created a dummy Amazon account and attached it to my household account. The dummy account can still see expiration dates, but I've been assured that the new popups will inevitably affect all Watchlists; it's just a matter of time. When talking to support for any large company, I don't believe everything they tell me, and this time is not an exception. Support might be clueless. That's all I know for now.

      Delete
    4. Thank you for adding to the discussion. I also added another person to the household account and started adding stuff to the Watchlist, but unfortunately, only the new pop up notices appear for me.

      Delete
    5. Sorry to hear that. I''m hoping my dummy account will continue to show the old popups until I can see the movies that will be expiring in December. I currently have over 100 movies in my Watchlist and any additional time I can get to prioritize my list will make me happier than I am now.
