It's time to check Your Watchlist for end-of-May expiring Prime titles.
ReplyDeleteIn two days Amazon Prime will begin to post its 28-day advance notices
of titles Leaving Prime at the end of May.
On Wednesday May 3, you will find the new Orange Expiration Date Notices
for expiring Prime titles with a Last Day to Watch of May 30.
May 3 + 28 days = May 31 which is the day the title Leaves Prime,
so the Last Day to Watch is the day before on May 30.
On Thursday May 4, you will find the new Orange Expiration Date Notices
for expiring Prime titles with a Last Day to Watch of May 31.
May 4 + 28 days = 32 or June 1 which is the day the title Leaves Prime,
so the Last Day to Watch is the day before on May 31.
Logically, these May 31 Orange Notices should say "Leaving Prime on June 1, 2017." Unfortunately, confusing matters, Amazon Prime Video is in the habit of posting these new Orange Expiration Date Notices as also saying "Leaving Prime on May 31, 2017."
The problem then becomes how do you tell the May 30 notices apart from the May 31 notices if they both say the SAME identical Leaving Prime date?
ReplyDeleteThe two-step procedure is to check Your Watchlist for the May 30 expiring titles first on May 3 and move them all to the top of page 1 of Your Watchlist. Then on May 4 when you check Your Watchlist again, any new Orange Expiration Date Notices that you find throughout the rest of Your Watchlist which say "Leaving Prime on May 31, 2017" will be the new May 31 Last Day to Watch expiring titles.
This method allows you to determine with certainty when the Last Day to Watch an expiring Prime title will be, regardless of whatever confusing Leaving Prime date you may find stated in the Orange Expiration Date Notice.
The only requirement is that you MUST BEGIN the procedure on Wednesday May 3. Then you will know for certain that the new Orange Notices which appear in Your Watchlist on Thursday May 4 are in fact those with a Last Day to Watch of May 31.
Then check Your Watchlist again on Friday May 5 and you will find the new
ReplyDeleteOrange Notices for expiring Prime titles with a Last Day to Watch of June 1.
May 5 + 28 days = 33 or June 2 which is the day the title Leaves Prime,
so the Last Day to Watch is the day before on June 1.
Unfortunately, Amazon Prime will confuse matters again by displaying both the "Leaving Prime on June 1, 2017" and "Leaving Prime on June 2, 2017" Orange Notices for the June 1 Last Day to Watch titles. So, checking Your Watchlist for a third day on Friday May 5 will sort out this mess.

It's a real shame the way that Amazon Channels are gobbling up the Prime catalog with no regard for the paying Prime subscribers, and that good movies are expiring with no notice.

Two observations: MGM continues to remove movies without any notice,
while giving advance notice for some others among the 5/31 Confirmed titles.
And Fandor continues to take movies from the Prime catalog with no notice.
Why is this happening Amazon?

ReplyDeleteI tried to watch Fear in the Night (1947) which shows the Prime logo on my Watchlist. However, when I attempt to play the movie, it says that it is currently unavailable. It also says the studio is Paramount...
Another movie, The Killing Hour (1982), shows Prime status. But when I click on this one, it tells me that it is part of the Full Moon Subscription.
A third movie, Don't Look in the Basement (1973), shows Prime availability, and when you click on this one, it is currently unavailable.
Somebody needs to fix this. All three of these movies have obviously expired without notice, but yet they still show Prime status when hovering over each movie.
There is another version of Don't Look in the Basement, the year is listed as 2008. Also, Fear in the Night can be viewed at Internet Archive.

DeleteIt's OK that they have now moved to STARZ subscription, because we were all given advance notice of their Prime expiration last month. This is how Prime titles should move to the new Amazon subscription channels, only after first giving paying Prime subscribers proper advance notice.

A selection of James Bond movies return about every three months and stay for one month. I imagine it's cheaper than Amazon Prime Video paying for them all year long, although something went seriously wrong this month when the Bond movies plus more than 50 other MGM and Paramount titles were unceremoniously removed from Prime on May 14-15.
I'm glad to watch the Bond movies every now and then for fun. I was looking forward to watching Moonraker (1979) and For Your Eyes Only (1981) once again this month. Roger Moore RIP
