Is the HBO content leaving at the beginning of May or at the end?
ReplyDeleteHello Ryan. I do not know the expiration date yet for the HBO titles. Last year, when the false expiration notices popped up, they showed an expiration date of 5/21/17, so the last day to watch was 5/20/17. After these notices popped up, we learned that the content would be available for another year.
DeleteHowever, we only receive 14-day expiration notices for Prime content. So that means that we won't see expiration notices until May 7, 2018 (assuming the last day to watch is 5/20/18). [May 7 + 14 days = May 21st. May 21st would be the day the content leaves Prime, so the last day to watch it would be May 20, 2018.]

Pet seems to come and go every few weeks, but the Maya Deren documentary looks like it met the same fate as Elena (2011), which is that it got picked up by Fandor and immediately pulled, which i HAAAATE. lost a lot of good films from my list that way, and they usually don't come back
On the plus side, year-long Fandor subscriptions were included with the CostCo MoviePass deal...so you can purchase a Fandor subscription for peanuts on eBay, probably. I got one a couple months back for $6.

ReplyDeleteIf you go to the first link and install the extension tampermonkey on Chrome and then go to the second link and install that, it will add an orange banner under the image with the expiration date on it. I've noticed the banner doesn't always work on the first page load so you should refresh the page to be sure.

I've installed both yet it doesn't seem to work. I assume the banner is supposed to automatically appear, but I've tried it on the Prime Video home page and individual movie pages and have had no luck seeing anything even on titles I know to be expiring.

DeleteBTW On the pages for Snake Eyes and A Simple Plan, the Tapermonkey icon has that red 1 but I see nothing there with an expiration. This makes me wonder if there is something on those two pages that's expiring 15-28 days from now and Amazon just hasn't made that notification present for users yet.
The red 1 just shows you how many scripts are running on that page. If this is the only script you have enabled it will always say 1 when you are on a page starting with https://www.amazon.com/gp/video and https://www.amazon.com/Prime-Video because those are the pages it is looking for information on. If you went to amazon.com (or any other website) the 1 should go away because that is not a page it's set to find info for.

DeleteI've communicated to multiple Amazon people about it who keep mentioning the app despite me clearly listing the problem involving desktop/laptops. The alleged problem, as I suspected it might be, is too many items in the watchlist and the solution given was for me to remove them. How to do this without having access to the watchlist remains unclear. Now they want to talk by phone.
DeleteThis situation is ridiculous! Obviously, you cannot clean up your Watchlist until they reinstate it. Have they told you how many items you can have on your Watchlist? I hope you can talk to someone on the phone who can resolve this for you. It is terrible...
DeleteI'm not sure but it’s possible the number was just too much for the system. They approximated 13,000 movies/shorts and around 2,000 TV shows, which includes TV shows in addition to miniseries and webshorts (i.e. Funny or Die).
DeleteThat is an inordinately large number. Suppose it's on me for adding almost anything to the queue (including duplicates) and taking my time removing the ones no longer available on Prime or even the ones I've seen. I probably wouldn't have run into this problem if I didn't make Letterboxd lists covering what they have and take off the service. So far, I’ve removed the Amazon originals since I don’t need to worry they might expire.
Dreading the call because I assume it'll be as long as the chat and may not end with an easy fix. But maybe they'll be able to clear off the non-Prime eligible titles.

ReplyDeleteSame thing happened with Andromeda--the other Gene Roddenberry series. I was watching episodes this weekend, and then tonight after work I found out, to my unpleasant surprise, that it is no longer available. I also had Earth: Final Conflict in my watchlist.
DeleteI got into a live chat session with a customer service person who just gave me the runaround about how there might've been a problem with the content. When I told him that I had no problem with the content and it streamed just fine for me, he just sent me a canned reply about sending my feedback to their technical folks. I was....unimpressed.
If you can find the over the air network Comet you can watch Andromeda daily. However, you will not be able to binge watch.

Seems like Andromeda (2000), which expired without notice, is back! All 5 seasons. We were in the middle of season 4, so super happy it's back. It wasonly gone for 2 days (tried last night, May 1st, round 10pm, was still gone, back and running as of 11 am May 2nd)
