Girls of the Sun (2019) 6.5 - French with English subtitles
There are about 300 movie titles added this month on Prime (ready to watch) per IMDB, APV and Watchlist title access changes. JustWatch.com shows 50 titles added since 01/01. My experience is that there is no "everything" list. And that is why a community like this is needed to help find titles wherever they are listed.

as added the day before. They reported 279 new movies on Dec 31 and 56 new movies
from Jan 1 to Jan 4, for a total of 335 new January movies.
I posted the comment about "There are about 300 movie titles added". After looking at just the 12/31 JustWatch List of over 280 titles added my list has grown from 300 added to nearly 500.
DeletePrime removed 800 titles in December. It seems reasonable to expect they are adding at least that many. Try using IMDB's advanced search which says there are currently over 10,000 titles streaming on Prime. That number has increased by more than 1000 in the last two months. If you INclude episodes, podcast, music videos, and similar the list of titles grows to over 35,000.

I couldn't find anywhere to question/comment related to the "ads" that are starting on Prime. I received email re ads starting on 1/29/24. They started ads today 1/8/24. Has anyone else had this issue, where Prime has already started ads while viewing Prime shows, earlier than they said they would??

DeleteI started Poldark, which is 5 Seasons. It appears they let you watch the 1st episode of a Season and then after that they start ads. So far 12 seconds at the beginning (which you can't FF through) and then they show the PBS/Masterpiece leadin, which you can FF through! Also ads are all for Amazon label/created shows. Not sure how ad revenue from an Amazon produced show will add to Amazon being able to "produce more / quality shows".

Note: You know, when I'm asking Prime to show me only movies from 2000-2009, and movies showing dates from the 1930's and 1940's are popping up in the results, it shakes my already dwindling confidence that they're showing me all the movies I'm asking them to show me...
DeletePrime's search function is even more broken than usual. Trying to narrow a search to only titles included with Prime will eliminate a lot of items that actually are included.
DeletePrime owns IMDB. IMDB recently updated the way results are provided and the implementation is messy -- some links to Prime show an entirely different title. The databases on Prime and IMDB are gigantic. I don't see how the two can be synced (what it seems is the plan) without a major investment in cleaning up individual discrepancies.
DeleteAnother problem is with film distributors who sometimes rename titles (for no reason), and identify a different year (year errors are common).
Yeah. I didn't see these particular issues just two days ago when I was checking for last day 1/30: Some of the older movies are showing up scattered all throughout my results for the more recent decades.
DeleteAnd just to clarify, these aren't titles where the release year is incorrect; they show the correct date but they're still showing up in the wrong decade. (I have a separate list I've compiled to check of titles that don't show a year at all!)
DeleteI use IMDB's Advanced Search as one tool to hunt for titles. There are some long time errors of the correct name linking to the wrong year version on Prime – simple goofs. What I saw happen this month is that there are now links from IMDB to Prime that show an entirely different title with an entire different year (some decades apart). It looks like that problem also occurred on Prime.
DeleteSo, I reckon a lot of these changes happened when Prime changed the queries in the left sidebar; it used to just have the Amazon Prime checkbox at the top and underneath you could choose whether to see just Movies or TV shows. Now the Amazon Prime checkbox is still at the top but the next selection defaults to "Department: Movies & TV" with "Prime Video" as the default so you're getting both unless you click it and select only "Movies." Then there's a Format selection to specify you want "Prime Video." Then I can start breaking it down by decade or however.
DeleteBut as Anonymous noted, this is filtering out a lot of stuff that's included with Prime. I can go back to the very top and uncheck the first Amazon Prime box, since I still have "Amazon Prime" checked under Format - but now instead of 74 pages of results for "Up to 1960" I have 400, and while I can now see titles like "Moby Dick" I'll have to wade through all the Freevee and subscription channel titles to see them. Is it worth the effort? That 400 pages is just where the queries top out so in theory I'll still be missing some.

The expiring version of Braveheart doesn't have a year assigned by Prime, and I see that you assigned it the proper year. What's the solution for Prime missing the year boat? Personally, I like when a contributor adds s/b (should be) to note the proper year.

RE: Expiring title: "Penny Serenade (1941) - another three copies NOT expiring". The expiring version is very low quality (320P or worse). The other three copies are very good quality in B&W or Color. This expiring version is 7 minutes longer which makes it seem be an uncut original release, but those minutes are all black screen at the end of the film.

DeleteMost of The older titles expiring 1/31 are public domain, which means they're available from a wide variety of sources, some of them free. The pd copies that have been expiring the last couple of months aren't in the best condition. Some of the silent era titles haven't even been given any score accompaniement. On Headless Horseman you can vaguely hear some sort of cartoon that was apparently playing in the same room the recording was done in!

Delete— I have come to realize the same thing. A lot of older titles are entering the public domain. Archive.org has a several community group uploading enhanced versions of the a many older titles. The Silent Film Hall of Fame uploads their enhance versions to Archive.org. … Prime seems to be offloading a lot the poorer quality older versions which is good thing.

ReplyDelete-- The copy which is not expiring is a 4k tinted restoration from Mary Pickford's personal collection (donated to the Library of Congress). This is the version to watch. It brings out the special lighting used to highlight her golden-blonde hair which sparkles throughout. Daytime and indoor scenes are gold tinted, with night scenes are in B&W. This was the style of colorization in the early days of film.

Prime Video years can be way off. "The Battle of China" (1944) is noted as a 2005 film (a 61 year error). If it was restored in 2005 then AP should note that in some other way, such as (1944, restored 2005).
